What is a Green Home?
Most of today's green homes are visually indistinguishable from conventional homes. The difference is in the details which offer health and environmental benefits including:
- Healthier home environment & air quality (less toxic materials)
- Optimized energy & water efficiency (saves money & resources)
- More durable materials (reduces maintenance costs over time)
- Cleaner for our environment (generates less pollution)
- Demands fewer resources - (uses renewable & recycled resources)
Why Go Green? Healthier Environment & Home
The U.S. Green Building Council reports that buildings use one third of our country's total energy, two-thirds of our electricity, one-eighth of our water, produce 30% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, and consume 40% of the world's raw materials. Approximately 40% of Washington landfill waste comes from building construction. In addition, many standard interior materials such as paints, glues and carpets produce harmful indoor air pollution. Green homes offer alternatives to reduce each of these impacts.
Does GreenWorks Realty work with traditional properties?
Yes! GreenWorks Realty works with buyers and sellers in the traditional housing market. Currently, traditional homes make up the strong majority of the total housing market.
Therefore, in order to help homebuyers secure healthier homes, GreenWorks Realty offers each homebuyer who works with our brokerage a free Green Home Assessment called CHED (Comfort, Health, Efficiency and Durability). CHED is a professional assessment of a home's indoor and outdoor health and environmental quality. CHED will help homeowners determine energy and water consumption, areas that may be off-gasing from chemical adhesives and floors, options for advanced technologies and money saving initiatives. Buyers will receive hundreds of dollars in coupon savings and the Seattle Public Utilities latest resource guides on green home remodeling.
